SSpS Mission in India South |
|
Beginnings: On the 6th of February, 1933, four pioneering missionaries from Germany (Sisters Sixtina, Fridburgis, Frederica, and Fridolina) responded to the needs at the Kalyanmal Nursing Home in Indore, India. During the first year, fifty-two patients were admitted and cared for. During this same time, the sisters ministered to an additional two thousand people through a clinic for the poor on the same campus. Soon, other Sisters arrived from Germany to assist them in their many ministries. Opportunities for mission service were everywhere, calling the Sisters to varied ministries and places. The deep spirituality, missionary zeal, dedication, untiring efforts, and hard work of these pioneering Sisters bore much fruit. |

Growth The first women (candidates) from India joined the Congregation in 1953. They laid a foundation for steady growth for years to come. Indore became the nucleus for missionary outreach in different parts of M. P. and throughout all of India. Sisters from other countries also arrived to support the work of mission in education and health services. |

In 1967, the Holy Spirit Hospital in Mumbai started its humble healing ministry. With the expansion of missionary activities and the felt need for better facilities for vocation promotion and formation, the Regional House was moved from Indore to Bangalore in 1971. As the Region grew, the Sisters were able to expand their ministry to other areas of the country (Madhyapredesh, Maharashtra, Bangalore, Orissa and Andhra Pradesh.) The growth of our Congregation in India continued and in 1979 the first Indian sisters (sisters Sheela and Yvonne) received mission appointments to Ghana, West Africa. Today, many of our Indian Sisters are in mission throughout the world bringing the gifts of God's love and compassion to those in need. The continued growth of our Congregation within India necessitated the establishment of three provinces in 1995 – the Province of Divine Love, ( Bangalore), the Province of Divine Providence ( Indore), and the Province of Divine Word (Jharsuguda). The Region of “Holy Trinity”was formed in the North East in 2004. Responding to the needs of people in different areas (states) of India, the Sisters engaged in varied apostolates (education, health care, social / pastoral, leprosarium, orphanages, boarding houses and hostels, vocational centers, and insertion communities). "May the love of the Triune God be known everywhere and may the Heart of Jesus live in the hearts of all peoples." |
